How the planner works
- Your space. Raised beds of any size and pots. Not sure yet? Start with one 4 × 8 ft bed.
- People and crops. Pick crops and say how many people you are feeding. Amounts start from extension per-person tables and shrink to fit your space, square foot by square foot.
- Layout. Crops are placed for you, tall ones on the north edge. Tap two squares to swap them.
- Season plan. When to start seeds, plant out, sow for fall and pick, for your ZIP code; the soil to fill your beds; and a list of seeds and plants to buy. Print it or save it to My garden.
The numbers come from the same data as the rest of the site: the plants-per-person chart (Utah State, Kansas State, Virginia Tech and Texas A&M extension tables), the spacing chart, the planting rules on each plant page, NOAA 1991–2020 frost normals for your ZIP code, and University of Maryland Extension’s raised-bed soil mix.
